This dress was made in memory to those who served their country in WWII.
The dress style & pattern was designed and made by myself and features delicate laser cut petal edgings to the skirt, intricate pleat work to the bodice and self made Poppies from laser cut silks, hand made felts and machine embroidered petals. The digitally printed center panel reflects the destruction created during WWII; the images depict the flyover planes of the propaganda posters, the bombing of St Paul’s cathedral plus the D Day landings via parachute and boat. I collected photographic images of original tanks and barbed wire, plus painted the poppies that are scattered across the work.
Bodice detail -
The dress is constructed from a befitting crimson duchesse satin and has a fully boned support structure. The Poppies are hand made from a combination of laser cut satins, silks and velvets, hand produced felt and finally some from heavy machine embroidery onto dissolvable fabric. Each flower is totally unique, often having a crystal-beaded or felt center
